We have done it!

Robocap are delighted to announce that the surgical robot has been purchased and delivered to Cheltenham General Hospital. Robocap has worked hard to make the acquisition of this state of the art equipment possible and its contribution of £350,000 has enabled Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to fund the remainder of the cost. Patients in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and South Worcestershire can now benefit from this new technology.

The first operation will take place in May and it is estimated that 150 prostate cancer patients will undergo the procedure each year. Consultants and theatre practitioners will now embark upon extensive training, with the first operations taking place in May.

Biral Patel, Consultant Urological Surgeon and Robocap Trustee said: “The system is proven technology, allowing surgeons better vision and a greater level of precision than ever before, thereby reducing the side effects of the operation and improving the recovery time. Our aim is to improve the diagnosis and management of early prostate cancer in the region by using the best available techniques and equipment. We are determined to keep up with developing technologies in order to make sure we continue to deliver the very best for our patients.”

This is not the end of the journey, since Robocap will continue to raise funds for the advancement of prostate cancer treatment in the three counties.

We are immensely grateful to all those who have raised funds for our charity, and to those who are continuing to do so, please be assured that new funds will be reserved against specific objectives relating to prostate cancer and its treatment, details of which will be published soon.

I am so pleased I chose to support your charity whilst I was Seniors Captain of Brickhampton Court golf club in 2013 and was able to present the charity with a cheque for £2262 in February. Its wonderful news that operations will begin this year.
